Humanising the Classroom

I’ve talked about the Khan Academy here before, and about what an impressive resource it is. Here is a TED talk  by the founder of the Khan Academy where he explains how he started it, and his philosophy. I draw your attention to this video for another reason. He makes the point that with resources such as Youtube, and the web in general I suppose, that it is possible to turn the standard education model on its head.

Teacher Lecturer, set your homework to: watch the lecture or the talk on whatever it is, then come in next day to tackle the activity. That way, the teacher’s time is used more usefully teaching, helping, supporting, discussing. Much more fun. Get a coffee, sit back and watch:
